PAINTING INSTALLATION

Hiis (2016) is a painting installation consisting of two 2,5mx1,5m discarded wooden palettes, picked up from a local construction site. The paintings have been built to stand up on their own in a soil bed.

I decided to layer the throw-away wood with colourful forms that are inspired by the woodgrain - the pattern of fibres seen in the cut timber, which once belonged to a growing tree. By re-planting the tree I have given it back it's life.

'Hiis' is a term in Estonian used to denote a sacred natural site.
